Did you know that Arizona has a more than 400-year legacy of Hispanic heritage? From the 1530s until 1821, Arizona and most of the rest of the western United States was claimed by Spain. From 1821 to 1848, the same section of what is now the United States was Mexico. Tucson, most of Southern Arizona, and part of southwestern New Mexico was part of Mexico until 1854.

Are you looking for more ways to celebrate Latino heritage in your community? Invite your family to find out more information at the Mesa Temple visitors Center. The National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Mesa Temple Visitors Center will be on October 7th at 7 p.m. Hear captivating stories about the Hispanic Heritage of Mesa from Eduardo Pagan, Bob Stump Endowed Professor of History at ASU and a host of the PBS series History Detectives.

Trailblazing toros! Come meet today at lunch at 1127. Both lunches. 1127. Everyone is invited. Let's finalize the details for our first hike of the year.

El Matador, the literary magazine of Mountain View, is putting together a Staff Directory. Any student who would like to join El Matador and be a part in helping us put names to faces can come on up to room 1207, Thursdays after school, and be a part of the magic that we create.

Also, look around campus for QR codes to submit your creative works to this year's issue of El Matador. Our theme: Apocalypse. Student submissions don't have to be on theme, but it is awesome when they are. Again, El Matador meets on Thursdays after school in room 1207. Look for the fish.

Seniors - Have you made a plan to get your senior portrait in the yearbook? You have two options. Option One: You can make an appointment at Lou Coopey photography for a full portrait sitting. This option requires a $40 deposit and gives you more control over your portrait and allows for multiple poses.

Option two - Come to school dressed to impress on October 25 for a quick senior portrait. This option is your last chance to get your senior portrait in the yearbook. Option two is free but it doesn't give you as much control over your senior portrait. Look for flyers posted around campus for more information or reach out via the Yearbook Insta @mvt_yearbook with questions.
