September 15th was not only the official start of Hispanic heritage month, but also Independence day for El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Nicaragua!

In addition, yesterday, September 16th, Mexico also celebrated their independence day! Yes, September 16th is Mexico’s Independence day, NOT May 5th.

Encourage your parents to attend the Guelaguetza at Desert Botanical Garden on Oct. 7th and 8th from 10 - 4 p.m. Viva la Guelaguetza! The lively festivities of a traditional Mexican indigenous holiday come alive at the Garden. Celebrate Oaxacan culture through music, dance, art, food and more.

Mountain View's Native American Heritage Club is meeting every Tuesday during B lunch and after school. At each meeting, we share our intertribal excitement while we plan future events and explore fun activities. SKODEN!

Admission Reps from the University of Utah and Northern Arizona University will visit Mountain View's Career Center soon. The University of Utah rep will visit on Wednesday Sept 18 and the Northern Arizona University rep will be here on Thursday September 19th. Both visits will take place during 2nd hour. Attention SENIORS. The FLINN Scholarship is now open. FLINN is the top scholarship in Arizona and is valued at over $100,000! It is awarded to seniors planning to attend an Arizona university. To be eligible you must rank in the top 5% with at least a 3.5 GPA, submit ACT/SAT scores, and have leadership in a variety of extracurricular activities. If you plan to apply or want to learn more make sure you speak with your counselor. The application is available at flinnscholars.org.

Would you like to have a card that gives you access to loads of free stuff? Then come to library on September 20th where a rep from the Public Library will be signing students up for library cards. We invite you and your parents or guardian to drop by our What's Next? event here at Mountain View on Tuesday, September 24th anytime between 4-6pm in the library area to meet with post secondary representatives. You can meet with reps from a variety of schools and programs to ask questions and gather information. Breakout Sessions will be offered on Exploring Colleges and programs of interest, Financial Aid and Scholarships. Attendees will be entered in a raffle drawing for a Cap and Gown package OR a gift card to Raising Canes, Starbucks, Amazon or Target!!! Seniors, we hope to see you and your family there!

This Friday, September 20th, we have 2 college reps visiting the Career Center. A rep from the University of Washington will visit for part of first hour. Interested in what it would be like to go to school in Seattle? Sign up to learn about majors, scholarships and more. At 2nd hour the rep from Grand Canyon University is scheduled to visit. Learn about programs of study, life on campus and what its like to attend this university located in central Phoenix and get your questions answered.
